Big art director creates some mighty fine art

May 28, 2010 at 11:23 am by Mike

Of course, when we say “mighty fine art,” we’re not being colloquial (or not entirely). We’re purposefully using the term “fine art,” as distinct from commercial art, in reference to the kind of fine-art paintings that our art director John Oat has been producing for years. Still, “mighty fine” would be an apt description of John’s work, especially given the bucolic theme so prevalent throughout his oeuvre. But you don’t have to take our word for it. John has landed a show with the Glave Kocen Gallery, so you can see for yourself. It’s an online exhibition, so all you have to do is click the link below to take a look. And if you’re in the mood for a real-world visit to Glave Kocen, seven of John’s paintings will be hanging in the gallery partnered with Eldridge Bagley’s Annual Summer Exhibit from June 4 to July 3.

Powerpoint under attack—by the military

“Powerpoint.” The mere mention of the word can send shudders down the spine, sparking trauma-flashbacks to mind-numbing ordeals of endless tedium. We’ve all been there—a captive audience member, squinting at slide after slide crammed to bursting with bullet points in illegibly-sized type, punctuated with garish clip art and eye-glazing graphs.

Last evening was an occasion in which all of us here at Big felt a great sense of pride. The second annual Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Richmond Chapter growth awards banquet was held at The Jefferson Hotel, and two of the three finalists for the Outstanding Growth Company Award were long-standing Big clients—Owens & Minor and Dollar Tree.

Looking like a million bucks (literally)

May 7, 2010 at 2:39 pm by Mike

As mentioned a couple of weeks back, we here at Big were privileged to attend this year’s Richmond Heart Ball, the annual black-tie fundraiser held by the American Heart Association. For us, the Ball was the culmination of several months of work with the AHA, during which we created marketing materials for not only the Ball, but also the Go Red for Women Luncheon. Well, the numbers are in, and we’re delighted to report that the two events together raised more than $950,000. That’s almost a million bucks, folks, which—if I do say so myself—is exactly how my colleagues looked, all gussied up in their formal finery. Herewith some photographic evidence.
