Blogging from Bermuda

Ah. The sea. The sun. The sand. Much of it in my laptop. But that’s the price you pay when you take advantage of island-wide wi-fi.
Anyway, before the cabana boy returns with my next mojito, I should probably make clear the fact that my post thus far is a complete and utter fabrication. Which is to say, Bermuda is its usual 800 miles away from me and my keyboard. But, in my defense, I’ve been to the island a lot lately in my imagination. You see, a few weeks back, I was immersed in topical tropical research, helping a new client with their proposal for a project in Bermuda. So even though my pasty, pale body never left Richmond, my mind has been soaking in the rays.
The client responsible for my tropical fever is Intrinergy, and we here at Big are proud to be working with them. You see, Intrinergy is one of those companies that actually makes the world a better place, solving problems rather than creating them. Their specialty is renewable energy, helping manufacturers and energy utilities reduce greenhouse gas emissions and landfill contributions, while also lowering their demand for non-renewable fossil fuels. Without getting too technical (you can go to Intrinergy’s website for that), Intrinergy uses advanced gasification and combustion technology to convert biomass, like wood residues and landscaping trimmings, into usable energy. As a result, when you look above an Intrinergy facility (which you can find throughout North America and Europe), you don’t see dark billowing clouds of toxic smoke, you see steam. And all around, you see an environment that is better off because of Intrinergy’s presence.
Of course, the value of such an environmentally friendly energy source is obvious in a place like Bermuda, world-renowned for its natural beauty. But ours is a single planet, connected and indivisible, and there’s no locality that doesn’t likewise deserve a source of clean energy. So here’s to Intrinergy, and its mission to fuel the future in a responsible, renewable fashion. And here’s hoping the communication materials we developed for Intrinergy help bring a more natural source of power to the natural beauty of Bermuda. (Photograph © James G. Howes.)
